This technical position is involved in all aspects of the operations and maintenance of the City's water plant facility.
The trainee works shifts at the facility and works under the general direction and supervision of the Licensed Plant Operator.
The ideal TRAINEE candidate has graduated from a standard high school or has a GED, possesses an interest in the STEM field (i.
e.
, science technology, engineering, and math), and shows a willingness to learn a career in the field of water treatment.
The trainee must have a valid driver's license and have the physical ability to meet the requirements of the job.
RESPONSIBILITIES Interprets operating data and observations to continually optimize the water plant process and equipment, makes adjustments to the process, as required, to effectively manage the water plant within the compliance with all rules, regulations, ordinances, and facility standard operations procedures.
Assists with minor repairs and preventative maintenance of water plant equipment and assists maintenance staff with major repairs.
Maintains accurate and comprehensive operation and maintenance records.
Assists in the proper inventory of chemicals and supplies are maintained for proper operations of the facility.
Assists in collecting samples and performing routine physical and chemical analyzes in support of process control and to ensure effluent meets standards.
Completes and submits reports to department, local, state officials.
Performs related work as required and/or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge and understanding of operation, maintenance practices, and procedures for water plant operations or the ability to learn such operations.
Knowledge and understanding of the functions, mechanics, and limitations of pumps, valves, compressors, and other plant equipment, or the ability to learn such operations.
Ability to monitor the operation of the mechanical and electrical equipment in the water plant processes and to detect flaws and/or defects.
Ability to read meters and charts accurately, maintain comprehensive records of operation and maintenance tasks, and to perform required analysis accurately.
Ability to properly operate and maintain water plant processes in order to meet or exceed permit requirements and standard operation procedures.
Ability to have good interpersonal skills, read and understand technical information related to the job, to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, with the public, city leaders, and other departments.
Ability to use basic mechanical repair tools and procedures.
Must have good organizational skills.
Ability to monitor, complete, and submit routine reports.
Regular, reliable full-time attendance is required.
Ability to work weekends and holidays, and respond to calls during non-scheduled work hours as required.
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license with a record acceptable to the City's driving policy and insurance program.
Must be able to maintain good interpersonal and communication skills to deal with the public, city leaders, and regulation agencies.
Must be able to comprehend, speak, and read the English language.
Must be able use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook or equivalent.
